From sower to goer. A former Asian Center for Missions regional manager and his family set forth on a mission to Mongolia.

Pastor Richel and Melody Maraat met in a bible school in Zamboanga, each called in different ways but purposely united for one mission in fulfilling the Great Commission.

In their 17 years of marriage, the mission’s call remained stronger than ever. It spoke louder and clearer in their hearts. Sowers Became Goers

“We have the unity to reach our target people group and lead them into knowing Christ,” says Pastor Richel, former regional manager of ACM’s Western Visayas office based in Bacolod City.

“ACM played a big role in my spiritual growth. It also widened my perspective in missions through exposure trips,” he adds.

The couple decided to enroll at ACM, where their passion for missions was empowered by the Kairos course, a nine-lesson seminar for mision awareness.

They graduated last 2004 and became representatives of ACM in provinces in Negros and Panay, equipping future goers with necessary trainings, seminars and exposures for understanding more about missions.

It was not long after when they received a prayer card which confirmed their calling as goers. Their burden for their people group was bred in a series of ardent prayers.

“After praying for two years, we received our mission’s confirmation. God provided an opportunity to start a ministry in Mongolia,” says Richel.

The mission can be quite challenging especially for their three children. “My obedience is the least thing I can contribute to my parents’ mission and for God,” shares their daughter Anna, 13, who was inspired by her parents’ selfless dedication.

Aside from her children’s education, climate adjustments, cross-cultural challenges and language barrier are Melody’s main concerns. Fear and uncertainty almost caused Melody to deny her missionary calling, until God confirmed His go signal through a promise written in Psalm 118:17: “I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord.”

The Maraat family is currently settling in their target nation to take part in the Great Harvest. It is their desire to see Mongolians as frontliners in sharing the grace of Christ’s salvation to their people group and across the borders of neighboring nations.
